Über den Film

Charlie (Brendan Fraser) hat vor vielen Jahren seine einstige Familie verlassen, um mit einem Mann zusammen sein zu können. Nachdem dieser stirbt, fällt Charlie in ein seelisches Tief. Aufgrund der schweren Trauer entwickelte der inzwischen mehr als 270 Kilo schwere Charlie eine Essstörung und hat alle Probleme, den Alltag zu bewältigen. Wenigstens hat er seine Arbeit als Englischprofessor, welche er von zu Hause aus führen kann – allerdings ohne Webcam, da er sich für sein Aussehen schämt. Als seine Vergangenheit ihn immer mehr einholt, beschließt er sich mit seiner 17-jährigen Tochter Elie (Sadie Sink) wieder in Verbindung zu setzen. Da sein Gesundheitszustand immer kritischer wird, setzt er alles daran, um sich, aber auch die Zukunft seiner Tochter zu retten. Zusammen mit seiner Exfrau Mary (Samantha Morton) und dem Tür-zu-Tür-Evangelisten Thomas (Ty Simpkins) bricht eine Zeit an, die ihm alles abverlangt…
