About the Event

Fred Frith ist am besten bekannt für die Neuerfindung der E-Gitarre und seit 50+ Jahren weltweit unterwegs. Er ist gleichzeitig eine singuläre musikalische Figur und eine Ansammlung von musikalischen Lebensläufen. Zum dritten Mal bei The Art of the Duo zu Gast, trifft er hier auf Chi Him Chik (Saxofon, Elektronik) und Isabelle Raphaelis (Flöte, Elektronik).

Über Fred:

Fred Frith ist ein Komponist, Improvisator und Pädagoge, der am besten für die Neuerfindung der E-Gitarre bekannt ist, die 1974 mit Guitar Solos begann. Mit Bands wie Art Bears, Massacre, Skeleton Crew, dem Fred Frith Guitar Quartet, Cosa Brava und dem FF Trio blieb er seinen Wurzeln in der Rock- und Folkmusik treu, hat sich aber gleichzeitig in viele andere Richtungen entwickelt.. Er unterrichtete viele Jahre lang an Mills College in Oakland, Kalifornien und an der Musik Akademie Basel, wo er das Masterprogramm in Improvisation mit leitete. Er ist das Thema des beliebten Films „Step Across the Border“ von Nicolas Humbert und Werner Penzel, der von "Cahiers du Cinéma" als einer der hundert einflussreichsten Filme des 20. Jahrhunderts bezeichnet wird.
