In PEREGRINA, choreographer and dancer Bibiana Jiménez explores her personal experiences of societal prejudice against migrants and women. The work takes its cue from the film project PEREGRINA – DANCE IS MY HOME (2025), from which she developed a powerful solo performance that premiered in Bonn in October 2025.
For the Cologne premiere in 2026, XXTanzTheater has invited theatre director Andrea Bleikamp to artistically expand and further develop the existing solo piece. At its heart lies the emotional power of dance – as a connection to one’s own self, as a sense of home, and as a means of expression beyond language. The autobiographical performance combines movement, text and visual material into a multi-layered narrative about migration, belonging and identity.
PEREGRINA challenges conventional narratives about exclusion and discrimination, brings internal and external conflicts to light, and invites us to shift our perspectives. The stage becomes a space for encounter, where diversity can be experienced and new visions of home emerge – conceived in personal, political and communal terms.

The focus is on the body as a repository of memory, identity and resistance – as a space for feminist perspectives. The works bring female and queer experiences to the fore and address pressing social issues such as equality, migration, colonialism, digital transformation and social justice. Productions such as XX-FORTUNA, I AM FARKHUNDA, MARIANA PINEDA and LA POLA were nominated for the Cologne Dance Theatre Award (2016, 2017, 2023, 2025). DAS EXPERIMENT and MISS GYNÉ (2020/21) received awards. XXTanzTheater creates spaces for artistic friction, dialogue and new perspectives on social realities.
XXTanzTheater is an independent, feminist-oriented dance theatre company based in Cologne and led by the choreographer Bibiana Jiménez. Since 2016, it has been creating powerful, contemporary dance theatre and site-specific performances that blend poetry, physicality and political commentary. Dance, theatre, music, video and visual art intertwine in an interdisciplinary manner – often in international collaborations between Europe and Latin America.
