Über die Veranstaltung

Nicholas Morrish (Modular Synthesizer)

Nicholas Morrish (1989) is a composer working across acoustic and electronic music, in concert, studio, staged and installation contexts. Central to his work are explorations of feedback, the carving out of finely textured detail from found sound and noise, and a speculative exploration of synthetic sounds that border on the real. His primary instrument currently is a modular synthesizer system.
Pieces have been presented by the London Symphony Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble, Münchener Kammerorchester, Ensemble Intercontemporain and the United Instruments of Lucilin, amongst many others, with sounds heard at Walt Disney Concert Hall (USA), Gaudeamus Muziekweek (NL.), Huddersfield Festival (UK) and the Konzerthaus, Berlin (DE).
Nick has held the Mendelssohn Scholarship (2018-‘20) was a Gaudeamus Award nominee (2019) a Styria-Artist-in-Residence Scholarship (2019), and Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize winner (2014). He spent 2018-19 as a fellow at Harvard University Music Department (with Chaya Czernowin), holds a doctorate from the Royal College of Music (supervised by Jonathan Cole, 2020) and previously studied at Oxford University and Trinity Laban. He was a member of the Professorial Staff at Trinity Laban in 2017-18, and was a graduate teaching assistant at the RCM from 2016-18. He now works on live, recorded and installed projects both independently and with collaborative partners.

The White Piano

Mathias Möhle (Tools & Performance)
Andreas Völk (Sound-Processing, Effects)

There has been an unplayable and therefore unused piano in Cafe Muschkebart for years. Mathias Möhle will take this piano apart bit by bit with his too-fancy fingers and incredible dexterity. Andreas Völk will send the resulting sound through various effect devices and samplers and create a special sound experience in a duet.
Say goodbye together in a special way to our long-time friend and dust catcher: The White Piano.
