Der vielfach ausgezeichnete Choreograf Jeremy Nedd und die Gruppe Impilo Mapantsula verbinden den energetischen und hochvirtuosen Pantsula-Tanz, einst Ausdruck des Apartheid-Widerstands in Südafrika, mit dem durch Spiritualität und das Kosmische inspirierten Jazz von Alice Coltrane und Bheki Mseleku. Aus dem Sound der beiden Jazzlegenden kreiert Nedd mit seinem fünfköpfigen Ensemble eine cosmic sonic map (Jeremy Nedd), in der Rhythmus und Improvisation zu einer Ausdrucksform von Afrofuturismus verschmelzen – eine mitreißende und poetische Reise durch Vergangenheit, Zukunft und Gegenwart mit Zwischenstopp in der Galaxis.

The multi-award-winning choreographer Jeremy Nedd and the group Impilo Mapantsula combine the energetic and highly virtuosic pantsula dance that was once an expression of resistance to apartheid in South Africa with the spiritually and cosmically influenced jazz of Alice Coltrane and Bheki Mseleku. From the sound of these two jazz legends Nedd and his five-strong ensemble create a “cosmic sonic map” (Jeremy Nedd), in which rhythm and improvisation fuse in an expressive form of Afrofuturism – a thrilling and poetic journey through the past, future and present, stopping off in the galaxy along the way.

IMPULSE FESTIVAL FÜR PERFORMANCE, THEATER & TANZ

An drei langen Festivalwochenenden – je einem in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Köln und Düsseldorf – werden herausragende Produktionen der Freien Szene aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz präsentiert. Dieser Showcase wird ergänzt um Positionen zum Verhältnis von Ost- und Westdeutschland im Rahmen eines „Post-West”-Schwerpunkts sowie um Ansichten aus der und auf die Gastgeber-Region NRW.

Wir freuen uns auf die erste gemeinsame Festivalsaison!

During three long festival weekends – one each in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Cologne and Düsseldorf – outstanding productions from the independent theatre scene from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be presented. This showcase will be complemented by positions on the relationship between East and West Germany as part of a ‘Post-West’ focus as well as views from and on the host region of NRW.
