Angola, 1961. Domingos Xavier, Aktivist gegen die portugiesische Kolonialmacht, wird von der Geheimpolizei entführt. Seine Frau Maria begibt sich zu Fuß auf die Suche nach ihm mit ihrem Baby auf dem Rücken und mit dem eisernen Willen, ihre Familie zu retten. Der erste afrikanische Spielfilm einer Schwarzen Frau ergänzt männlich dominierte Erzählungen über afrikanische Befreiungskämpfe um eine dezidiert weibliche Perspektive.
