Eine performative Suche nach Wundern von äöü 

Hast du schon einmal ein Wunder erlebt – oder zumindest gehofft, dass eines passiert? Wäre nicht heute ein guter Zeitpunkt? Ja, warum nicht? Die Berichte über unerklärliche Ereignisse reißen jedenfalls nicht ab: ein Fünfzehnjähriger in Nikeschuhen wird zum Heiligen, Marienfiguren tauchen im Supermarkt neben den Tiefkühlerbsen auf, im aufgeborstenen Asphalt blüht ein Löwenzahn und dein Sportverein steigt endlich in die erste Liga auf. 

War das jetzt ein Wunder? 

äöü nimmt dich mit auf eine theatrale Pilgerreise zu unerklärlichen Ereignissen, naturwissenschaftlichen Zaubereien und einer unmöglich erscheinenden Suche. Zu elektronischen Harfenklängen reisen sie von Assisi über Međugorje bis nach Fátima und zurück ins Ruhrgebiet. Zwischen Glauben, Wissenschaft, Hoffnung und (Theater-)Magie lädt äöü ein zu einer poetischen Performance über das, was sich den Gesetzmäßigkeiten von Alltag und Natur entzieht. Mit gewohntem Augenzwinkern, großer Neugier und zugegebenem Zweifel fährt äöü die Antennen aus. Wer's glaubt, wird selig. Spürst du es auch?

äöü nehmen das Alltägliche zum Anlass, um unsere heutige Welt zu befragen. Immer mit Tiefgang. Immer mit Augenzwinkern. Sie sammeln und erforschen Alltagsgegenstände, bilden aus ihnen Formationen auf der Bühne, stellen sich durch ihre eigenen Körper in ein Verhältnis, zeichnen Beziehungsstrukturen zwischen und zu den Dingen. Die daraus resultierenden Arbeiten sind poetische und sinnliche Zwischenräume, in die das Publikum eingeladen wird. äöü ist das Theater- und Performancekollektiv von Patricia Bechtold (Szenische Forschung Bochum) und Johannes Karl (Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft Gießen) aus Bochum. Die Kollaboration auf Augenhöhe mit anderen Künstler:innen ist dabei wesentlich für ihre Arbeitsweise. äöü ist also immer zwei Plus. www.aeoeue.de

A performative research for miracles by äöü

Have you ever experienced a miracle – or at least hoped one would happen? Wouldn’t today be a good time? Yes, why not? In any case, the reports of inexplicable events show no sign of stopping: a fifteen-year-old in Nike trainers becomes a saint, statues of the Virgin Mary turn up in the supermarket next to the frozen peas, a dandelion blooms in a crack in the tarmac, and your football club finally gets promoted to the premier league.

Was that a miracle?

äöü take you on a theatrical pilgrimage to unexplained events, scientific wonders and a question that seems impossible. To the sounds of electronic harps, they start a trip from Assisi via Međugorje to Fátima and back to the Ruhr area. Navigating the realms of faith, science, hope and (theatrical) magic, äöü invite you to a poetic performance exploring what defies the laws of everyday life and nature. With a twinkle in their eyes, boundless curiosity and admitted scepticism, äöü put their antennas out. Those who believe shall be blessed. Can you feel it too?

The performance explores the miracle as a social phenomenon in times of crisis and uncertainty. The project is based on interviews and research into personal experiences of miracles, as well as journeys to places of pilgrimage undertaken by äöü in 2025. From this, äöü are now developing a theatrical pilgrimage between faith, doubt and the magic of theatre, exploring the question: what do our longings for miracles reveal about human existence and the state of our society?

äöü use the everyday as a starting point to explore our contemporary world. Always with depth. Always with a touch of humour. They collect and examine everyday objects, arrange them into formations on stage, position themselves in relation to them using their own bodies, and trace the networks of relationships between and with these objects. The resulting works are poetic and sensory spaces into which the audience is invited. äöü is the theatre and performance collective of Patricia Bechtold (Scenic Research, Bochum) and Johannes Karl (Applied Theatre Studies, Giessen) from Bochum.
