Cousines like Shit is a Vienna/ Austria based band consisting of the two
cousins Hannah and Laura Breitfuss. Through critical punchlines the
Cousines Hannah and Laura Breitfuß proclaim their view on social
phenomenons and the paradox of human beings. Their tracks provide the
possibility of self reflexion, transmit the feeling of being caught or simply
make you smile when acknowledging the comedic character of certain human
behavioral patterns.
Their sound defies categorization—Cousines like Shit themselves call it
AVANT TRASH. That’s also the title of their debut album, released in
September 2023 on Seayou Records. Their self-proclaimed genre ‚Avant
Trash‘ reflects the Cousines’ unique style, their text-focused approach and
simple but catchy melodies.
Their second album ‚Permanent Earthquake‘ was released in march 2025.
Balancing between distinctive and catchy, with clever, often layered lyrics and
their signature two-part harmonies, the duo stays true to their self-coined
Avant Trash sound on their second album—though perhaps with a bit more
synthesizer than on its predecessor. However, in terms of energy, Cousines
take their songs to the next level.
It’s no coincidence that the album was recorded in New York by producer
Madison Velding-Vandam- (The Wants, Bodega,...)—they share both a
stylistic and personal connection to the city’s Downtown Art Punk scene.
Musically and thematically, Cousines thrive on pushing boundaries—whether
exploring the fine line between admiration and envy (Frenemies), sobriety
and club culture (Sober at the Club), or, as in the one-take recording of High,
literally building a wall between them only to figuratively tear it down again.
"High is the end of today and the beginning of tonight.
