Cherry Bandora

[EN] In fast tempo and electrically amplified, Cherry Bandora revives the analog sounds of Laïko, Anadolu Rock and Mizrahit. In 2013, the Berlin-based retro band released their debut album The Golden Years, featuring new interpretations of taverna hits by legendary Greek and Israeli artists such as Stelios Kazantzidis, Vasilis Tsitsanis and Aris San. Since then, they have been constantly expanding their repertoire with old-time songs about heartbreak, partying and smashing plates, sung in multiple languages. In addition to Greek, Turkish and Farsi, self-penned lyrics appear in English and Hebrew. The sometimes joyful, sometimes melancholic melodies are accompanied by the delay-heavy tones of the bouzouki - the Greek guitar - and the psychedelic sounds of the organ. Oriental rhythms mix with surf, funk and Latin grooves in lush and daring arrangements, alluring the listener on a journey between Thessaloniki, Istanbul, Jaffa and Berlin.

Karaba

[EN] The Jazz-Kraut formation lets its listeners slide into the world of progressive Krautrock. Karaba are Marcel Maier (Embryo) on electric bass, Louis Bankvas on electric guitar, Jakob Thun (Embryo) on drums and Andreas Kainz on Fender Rhodes, synthesizer and organ. The quartet takes its cues from a wide variety of progressive music genres and scenes, but always retains its own obscure Karaba sound character.
This sound shows kinship with the music of Frank Zappa, bands of the Canterbury Scene like Soft Machine or National Health, but also world music influences, presumably due to the long lasting friendship and musical exchange with the world music legend Embryo.
