About the Event

AS NOITES AINDA CHEIRAM A PÓLVORA (THE NIGHTS STILL SMELL OF GUNPOWDER)

R: Inadelso Cossa; Mosambik/FR/DE/PT/NL/NO 2024; OmeU; DCP; 92 min.

Filmmaker Inadelso Cossa has fragmented memories of the civil war in Mozambique during his childhood. His grandmother, Maria, would turn the bombings into fireworks to protect him. With Alzheimer’s disease, Maria’s memories fade. When night falls, some of them come back to life. Moises, a sound engineer, hears voices at dusk. A former rebel continues to fight within himself. AS NOITES AINDA CHEIRAM A PÓLVORA explores the memory, scars and traumas left by the civil war in the years 1977 to 1992. Using a poetic and sensory approach, the director opens a dialogue between the victims and perpetrators of this war.
